PlayStation exclusives will all make their way to PC now. If anyone is angered by this, you needed to understand that you are in a very small minority. Some self awareness is needed here, folks. None of them have "Only on PlayStation" anymore.

If you have a physical copy of any PS5 exclusive, look at it.

Now Sony will be losing out a lot unless they start to implement microtransactions just like all the other major 3rd parties do on PC and their game design and philosophy will be changed irrecoverably going forward. Sony only makes money from one time sales on PC and nothing from 3rd parties.

MS has effectively benefitted the most from Sony's PC ports as it draws people away from PlayStation and gives MS a base to peddle Game Pass to. Meanwhile Sony has to split their sales revenue with Valve and Epic while conforming to Xbox controller standards so their games work on PC.

Now MS has every advantage on PC, they have the default controller that works natively on all modern games and they have their own Windows platform to push Game Pass and take 100% revenue from. But as soon as they went day one PC/Xbox their consoles became completely redundant. If games like Forza Horizon, Ori and Gears remained only playable on Xbox I certainly would have bought the console for those games and am sure many others would have too. If MS kept their exclusives on Xbox I'm certain they would have fared better in the console competition and wouldn't have become the embarrassment that Xbox One was. I have to hand it to Microsoft, they're single handedly responsible for baiting Sony into putting games on PC. Xbox has never focused on this and they've also never been first place in any console generation.

The console business is about getting people to buy your console, and then you get free paydays with all of the other sales. Sales of their own games is a drop in the bucket compared to the 30% take they have in every other product sold through their system. It also ignores 40 years of console sales history, and also seems to ignore basic business logic. PlayStation are compromising their multi-billion dollar business strategy to chase a few million dollars in publisher sales. One of the main reasons I've never bothered with Xbox is because it has nothing unique - I can just get their games on PC if I really wanted to. If your product doesn't have anything unique to offer, there is limited incentive to buy it.

I bought a PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4. I bought an N64 because I wanted to play Mario 64, Mario kart, and GoldenEye. I bought my kitchen table because it was relatively cheap but sturdy and matched my decor. I bought a Dyson vac because I wanted a vac with good mobility, a waste bin that's easy to empty, and a vac that's easy to take apart. They figure out which product has the traits they want/need and pick that one. When people are in the market to buy a product they often find a few good options and compare them. If a year is now acceptable for a first-party Sony exclusive to lose its exclusivity, how much of a stretch will it be for us to get to merely six months of exclusivity? How much of a stretch is it for that window to keep shrinking until Sony becomes MS and does date-and-date releases? I mean, we've already come SO FAR in just a year if Herman Hulst is saying that Sony's PC players are "important" to them despite the fact that they had no PC players at all just a year ago. In any case, if Sony is indeed putting GoT on PC after only a year, then it just merely confirms what I've been saying about what would happen if they start feeling comfortable doing something that offers ZERO benefit to their existing userbase. I remember last year when the HZD PC port was announced how so many of the comments were "who cares?! it's three years old." or "why are you so mad more people will get to play it?" Of course, many of those comments are still abundant, but I'm definitely noticing how more and more people are starting to not be okay with this. Funny how I'm tending to see more and more dissent over this issue as Sony continues to go down this road.
